After months of delay due to the Coronavirus Pandemic the Jubilee Project is finally able to begin.
Our £450k Jubilee Project, which includes plans to provide an additional 4 en-suite bedrooms, a new kitchen, laundry, dining room and a new lounge has reached an important milestone. The activities of the last 12 months have secured all necessary funding through a number of successful Grant Applications, and the procurement exercise to appoint a Contractor has been successfully completed.
However, despite everything being in place to allow work to begin, it has been agreed that no construction activity will commence whilst restrictions are in place due to the Corona virus. As soon as the situation changes, residents, families and staff will be informed ahead of any works commencing.
The Abbeyfield Strathaven Staff have been working tirelessly to put on a fun filled entertainment schedule for the residents to keep them occupied during the Corona virus lock down. At the moment we have DVD Days on a Monday and Friday letting the residents have their pick of movies. Tuesday is a pamper day where they can have their hair done etc. Wednesday is an armchair exercise class to music. Thursday afternoons have become the weekly Quiz day with the residents thoroughly enjoying answering questions from several different categories across the decades finished off with some music and dancing.
Residents within our care facility are particularly vulnerable to the Corona Virus. We have taken the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all visits from relatives and friends for a further three week period, as per instructions from our Prime Minister.
We do not take the decision to close our doors to relatives and visitors lightly, but feel that reducing all but vital visits to the House will help protect the health and wellbeing of our residents.
We are aware that this will be a concern to some and would ask that, if you believe that your circumstances warrant a visit, then please contact the House Manager, Sharon Baxter.
Please be assured that during this difficult time our staff will do all they can to support contact with your loved one via other methods such as telephone, video calls or emails. If you wish to make a video call please contact the Manager by telephone on 07873713283 who can arrange this.
We know that you all recognise the seriousness of the current situation and acknowledge the reliance on our service to do the very best to keep residents safe and well.
We thank you for all your continued support and understanding.
We would just like to wish a very special Happy Birthday to one of our residents who celebrated turning 100 on 16th March.
This weeks entertainment was The Camera Club who treated the residents to a wonderful range of pictures.
We would just like to thank The Camera Club for coming to entertain the residents and hope we see them again in the near future.
Abbeyfield Strathaven had our annual visit from the Care Inspectorate in which we received a very good scoring for each category inspected. The visit went perfectly with the inspector being more than pleased with the day to day running of Abbeyfield House that we have been scored Very Good (5's) out of a possible 6. We will now be working harder than ever to strive to achieve that perfect 6.
Our latest care inspectorate report is now available to view.
