FAQs

Who can apply to become a resident?

Any person aged 65 years and over, who no longer wants, or feels able to continue living alone or in their own home.

What's the difference between care at home and a nursing care home?

Care at Home is for older people who want an independent lifestyle, but with the reassurance of extra support if they need it. The House Manager, staff  and volunteers are there if required, but residents look after themselves as much as they want to. There are two tasty, home cooked meals provided every day.

Will my room be furnished and decorated?

We want you to feel at home as soon as possible, so all rooms are tastefully decorated, with carpet and curtains but are left unfurnished. This means you can bring your own furniture and possessions when you move in and get your room looking just the way you want it.

How much does living at Abbeyfield cost?

We are a charity, and therefore do not put profit before residents. We will only charge what it actually costs to live with us. The House Manager will explain the costs more in detail when you apply as you may be eligible for funding to help with the cost. Having a low income won't necessarily stop you from being able to live with us.

How do I apply?

Once you've decided Abbeyfield Strathaven is right for you, you can apply directly. The House Manager, staff  or a volunteer will be able to help you with any questions you have, organise your visit or help you with your application.

You can email the House Manager directly at:
