Abbeyfield House provides assisted living for older people in fourteen en-suite bedrooms. Rooms are tastefully decorated having been individually renovated this year .Your accommodation is yours to furnish as you like, for a real home from home ambience. The house has a warm and welcoming communal lounge and dining room - lovely to sit and read or just to have a chat with friends. There is also a pretty, well-tended garden with plenty of seating. All our accommodation is on the ground floor for easy access. Both male and female residents will be made welcome
The modern kitchen is fully equipped, and satisfies all the current Food and Safety Regulations and the Health and Safety at Work Act. All staff employed to work in the kitchen have the necessary qualifications to handle food. Two tasty and nutritious home-cooked meals are served daily along with homemade baking. This is served in our pleasant communal dining room so that meal times are a social occasion. Residents have breakfast making facilities in their own rooms, or can enjoy the porridge which is offered, so they can have their breakfast whenever they want, for a gentle start to the day.
The House is staffed 21 hours each day thanks to our new nightshift workers. Each bedroom has the facility to be linked to the community Alert system which operates 24 hours per day. All residents have their own individual key to the house and to their own bedroom. Each bedroom has a lockable safe where you can keep all valuables. The house has CCTV which operates 24 hours per day. This will give you peace of mind.
Our staff team are committed with everyone having an important role. Staff development is of the highest priority at Abbeyfield Strathaven and staff are encouraged to complete the necessary qualifications for their post. This allows Abbeyfield Strathaven to have trained staff within the premises at all times. We take time to find the right people to work for us, who love their job and go the extra mile in making sure that everyone who lives with us feels happy and secure. 'Making time' is an important principle that means we never limit our staff on how long they can spend with a resident. We have our own in-house training programme, so that every member of staff feels supported in delivering best practice.
A programme of social activities and events, especially suitable for older people, is arranged by volunteers, so there is always something to keep you occupied or to look forward to. Residents are invited to contribute to planning the programme to ensure that their wishes and needs are met. Regular activities include:
Games Afternoons, Film Shows, Afternoon Tea, Arts and Crafts and Gentle Exercise Classes.
There is regular entertainment provided at the House for residents to attend should they wish. The entertainment is always varied and in the past has consisted of musicians, singers, a gentle exercise class, magicians and the local Strathaven pipe band.
Abbeyfield Strathaven is part of the local community and entertainers have stated they enjoy coming into Abbeyfield Strathaven.
