Yesterday we celebrated Mr Frank McCarroll’s landmark 90th birthday in style with a party in the Abbeyfield Lounge featuring a brilliant performance from Colin Bryce, The Tartan Tenor.
Colin was brilliant as always performing a wide variety of old classics often assisted by Frank who everyone knows himself loves singing at any opportunity. The performance was then followed by a delicious buffet and birthday cake during which it was really special to see Frank enjoying himself surrounded by his family and also his little ‘Abbeyfield family’
On Wednesday we hosted the Abbeyfield Visual Arts competition in partnership with Strathaven Academy. Pupils from S1 - S3 were kind enough to display their artwork in the Abbeyfield lounge for the residents to see whilst the judges picked a winner. This is the first time the competition has taken place since 2019 having stopped due to COVID-19. It was really great to get the competition up and running again and to see how happy the residents were to be involved and to chat with the young artists.
Thank you to the teachers and students of Strathaven Academy for providing such a wonderful variety of artwork to a very high standard and to our judges Les and Mhairi who did not have an easy job picking the winner.
We look forward to hopefully making this annual event once again building on the success of this year’s competition.
The winner was Alice Anderson with her entry displayed below.
The month of June saw a major programme of replacing windows delivered. As part of our programme to reduce energy costs, the original double-glazing windows have been replaced with triple Glazing, A++ rated windows.
Working with EK Windows & Doors, a coordinated installation programme was followed that minimized disruption to residents & families. EK Windows & Doors delivered a very professional approach to customer care and we are delighted with the finished product! Their attention to detail and willingness to accommodate the needs of the residents was evident, and we appreciated working with them
A huge thank you to Strathaven Pipe Band who entertained the residents last night as part of their Gala day preparations. A really superb performance and we managed to avoid the rain which is always a bonus.
Thank you and good luck for the Gala Parade on Saturday.
We are delighted to announce that after a recent unannounced inspection from the Care Inspectorate we have received two 5's (Very Good) for how well we support our residents well being and our staffing.

Thursday seen us host our first residents barbecue in the garden. The residents all had a such a great day and loved it that much we have already had requests to start planning for the next one
Thank you Loudon Friends for performing for the residents this afternoon especially as the fab foursome were missing a member on this occasion. A wonderful performance that had our residents toe tapping and chair dancing throughout.
Thank you to guest speaker John Walker for entertaining the residents this afternoon with a fantastic show. John did an interesting performance all about the origins of famous everyday sayings which was witty, fascinating and humorous for all. It was a pleasure to see the residents laughing and also watch their faces as they had that 'lightbulb moment' each time a saying or phrase was deconstructed and explained. Overall it was a brilliant afternoon and we hope to have John back visiting some time soon
Thank you to Shiela Mary and Tom also known as SMT for performing for the residents yesterday afternoon. A wonderful performance from two talented musicians especially considering they were a member down.
Thank you to Alex and Christine also known as Luckenbooth for performing for the residents this afternoon. A wonderful performance from two talented musicians that had our residents captivated throughout (a tricky task against the backdrop noise of construction work in the garden). It is always a pleasure to have acts such as Luckenbooth perform and hopefully it won’t be too long until we see them again.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Strathaven Argos for their generous donation of new kitchen equipment to the house. We really appreciate that the staff at Strathaven Argos think of us when such an opportunity arises.
