Construction work recommences this month after Christmas holidays and its good to see all windows and doors are in place! The emphasis this month is progressing with internal completion of the new bedrooms and lounge, and external brickwork will continue when weather permits!
As 2020 comes to a close, there is going to be ‘more room’ in Abbeyfield Strathaven as development
of the existing facilities continue. The £0.5M project will see an additional 4 en-suite rooms provided
along with a new lounge, new kitchen and laundry facilities and a guest room.
David Donald of BlairDonald Complete Building Services Ltd, comments, “Construction activities have
been progressing well since September this year, and finishing external work is planned for this year.
From January 21, the focus will move to progressing all internal work towards an April Completion”.
The design of the extension was prepared by local Architects, Anderson Anderson LLP who have
continued to provide support during the months of construction. “It’s great to see work progress
and all plans come to fruition,” commented Dot Anderson, “ The internal details will provide a Care
facility appropriate for 2021 and for many years to come, and we have enjoyed collaborating with the
Abbeyfield Project Team”.
Darren Hunter from Abbeyfield Strathaven Care team is pictured within the internal courtyard of the
new extension, in front of the new lounge.
Darren says, “The staff have been really encouraged to see work progress, and all residents are
looking forwards to seeing the development completed in the Spring. The Contractor’s workforce has
sensitively kept the needs of residents to the forefront of their work, and the residents appreciate
the respect constantly shown as they work in close proximity”.

The roof is now in the process of being completed. the framework is now in place and once covered should make the extension both wind and water-tight.
The extension is now really beginning to take shape as we have seen the structure of the new rooms erected at the beginning of this month. We can now see more clearly the layout and shape of the new lounge and corridor in the photos below.
Below are photos of the ongoing progress which has been made on the extension of the house this month.
The start of October has seen the previous monoblocking removed and the trenches for the foundations being lined and dug.
The builders then laid the pipework which has been fitted into place and cemented over.
Finally the third photo shows they have now began erecting the structure of the extension.
Below there are some photos of the steady progress being made in our extension;
